Commission Horror Stories – Tell Yours

February 1st, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

We’ve had it. Our website was establish to put the truth out in the open, regarding MMA, and we’ve done just that. MMA seems to have been cleaned up some, or everyone is out there hiding. Regardless, our current and long-term fans know that we’re shedding a new light, focusing on the good truths while continuing to report on those who have turned their eyes from what should be done in a sound and just world.

That being said, we still have one enemy to tackle. One enemy to turn a friend. The Athletic Commissions of America. Where’s a good place to start? The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission.

Drama is not rampant in 2012, though a stench remains from last year. What is growing rampant, is the stories we’ve heard over the past few months regarding the Massachusetts and other state athletic commissions.

Who/What is the commission? Well, for starters, they are the men & woman in suites outside the MMA cage at each event. Some know much about the sport, some know what seems like nothing, but, regardless, they are there by law. What isn’t in their job description, is for them to be belligerent pricks like many of the officials in the wonderful state we all operate around. I’m not calling out any names, or being specific, but they know who they are. Nose in the air much?

Don’t get me wrong, some commissioners do their job wonderfully. A lot don’t, and now is your chance to tell your story!

Send us your commission story below. We will honor anonymity requests, but hope that some big honchos have the balls to tell it like it is and sign their name on it:

Matt Doherty

February 1st, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

“Mantises have two grasping, spiked forelegs (“raptorial legs”) in which prey items are caught and held securely.”

That just about describes it! Man, what a beast we have prowling from a hole-in-the-wall in Lynn, MA. Matt “Green Mantis” Doherty is a devout “Team Pradal Serey” fighter who fights in the North East region U.S. Matt isn’t just any fighter, but one passionate about his art overtaking the local Mixed Martial Arts scene.

Matt has been in the game for a while now, but most notable would be his 2011 spree of bouts. He started in January and worked his way to November with a roller-coaster record. After a big win over Rico DiSciullo, Matt decided to take his skills to the 66th Annual Golden Gloves, held in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The Gloves gave him opponents Durin Colucci, Frank Maggiolo, and finally training partner Kin Moy, avenging his loss to Kin at Cage Titans Vengeance.

What’s next for Matt? Expressing his interest for a re-match with Rico, he was prepared to do a customary face-off at Cage Titans Invasion, an event that took place this past weekend. He was delivered a surprise 2nd round, however, when Rico’s opponent Kurt Chase-Patrick went jiu-jitsu ninja, getting the verbal tap and securing a fight against the “Green Mantis” himself.

We can expect to see Matt taking on his new opponent at the next Cage Titans event, and more recently, enjoying spray-painting his gloves gold.

UPDATE: “his next fight is a 5 rounder at CFX for their ammy title vs lauzon’s tony ellison…after he wins the new englands of course”

“No Holds Barred” MMA blog gets Gina Carano Confession – Voice Altered?: YES

January 23rd, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

The MMA athlete gone movie star Gina Carano was blasted with suspicion after her movie Haywire landed in theaters. Many fans who knew her voice well, immediately noted that it seemed a bit off in the movie.

Well, Gina finally admitted it in a recent podcast interview, and the suspicion can now be deemed fact:

“I’m just honored to be a part of it … there was a little joke that I was saying that even if [Soderbergh, the director] would have shaved my head and put Bill Clinton as my voice, I would have still done it.”

Well MMA fans, you cracked this case early so give yourselves a pat on the back!

Mandracchia “Backs Out” – Cormier’s Pro Debut is Off

January 19th, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

A few days ago, we posted an article about a “tip” we received stating that the matchup taking place at CES on February 3rd, against Dan Cormier and Fred Mandracchia was not taking place. We, like always, did some digging, and approached both CES as well as Cormier, and both said the fight was still on.

So they thought.

Tonight, we received a comment asking us if we were ‘retracting’ that said article. No, we are not, because at the time, it was indeed – a false rumor. Until today. FIGHTINGTRUTH.COM has now officially heard that the fight is definitely NOT happening, as Mandracchia pulled out of the fight.

For those who don’t know, Fred Mandracchia stepped up at the last minute to take on Thomas Evans at the AFO fight last Friday night. Mandracchia ended up losing the fight… Now he’s backing out of the next one.

Not sure what’s going on, but professional MMA fighters should know not to back out of a fight. S

eems to be happening more and more as of late, and it’s not only unprofessional, but disrespectful to the sport, and your opponent.

If you take on a fight… man up, and live up to the expectations of a true professional MMA fighter.

We hope Dan can get a replacement fight, if not – we hope to see him in the cage again real soon.

Sonnen vs. Silva – Coming Soon?

January 18th, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

The highly anticipated rematch between the ‘loud mouth of the UFCChael Sonnen against his arch enemy Anderson “The Spider” Silva looks like it could possibly be happening after all.

Check it.

The real question remains…. If and when this fight does indeed happen… If Chael Sonnen loses, will he really leave the UFC like he broadcasted to the world on LIVE PPV?

We shall see kids… Only time will tell.

Gina Carano Taps Out Radio Host

January 18th, 2012  / Author: a TFT Crew Member

In a radio interview promoting her new movie, Haywire, MMA hottie – turned movie star Gina Carano was on the Opie and Anthony Radio Show in NYC yesterday. Comedian/Radio host, Jim Norton, who is always a glutton for punishment, stepped up to Carano to see what it felt like to be choked out.

And yeah, as you may have guessed, he didn’t last too long.

Enjoy. And be sure to watch it in slow motion.
